CargoPod is an autonomous last-mile delivery vehicle, developed by Oxbotica. The van is guided by our state-of-the-art autonomy software system Selenium, which enables real-time, accurate navigation, planning and perception in dynamic environments.
In June of 2017, CargoPod made international headlines, doing the first driverless deliveries in the UK. As part of the GATEway project, Oxbotica partnered up with Ocado Technology (a division of Ocado, the world’s largest online-only supermarket) to carry out the deliveries around the Royal Arsenal Riverside development in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The real world trials saw CargoPod operating in a residential environment, delivering grocery orders to over one hundred customers. Customers were delighted – for most, it was their first experience of the autonomous technology, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The vehicle is able to carry a total of 128kg of groceries at a time.
